Education and Entrepreneurship in Black America

The Brown decision came in 1954, but Blacks who had been educated in segregated schools generationally since Reconstruction had already achieved 89.8% literacy by 1952. Black children had been nurtured by parents, pastors, and teachers and had received an excellent academic foundation that was also strongly spiritual. Likewise, Black business owners had persevered despite racism to build successful business districts because they were empowered by God and the church.
